So how does depleted soils have anything to do with poor health? Well foods like fruits, vegetables, cereals, meats and eggs that are grown these days, are by a large percent grown on farms that are so depleted of the essential minerals, by the time these foods make there way to your kitchen table there is very little to no nutritional value left to nourish your body.
This is not new news how ever. This is a fact that has been know since 1936, that is over 72 years since the US department of agriculture presented US Government docement #264 that clearly reported that all American farm and range soils were depleted by 85% of the mineral value that those farms had 100 years ago.
Now if that was the case in 1936 then god only knows how much worse it is today. And its not just America that is having problems with depleted soils, in the 1992 Earth Summit Report, it states the percentage of mineral depletion from soil in the past 100 years, by Continent.
North America 85%
South America 76%
So what does all this mean and what does it have to do with your health and well being? Simply put, if our foods that we are eating are not being grown in mineral rich soils then they are unable to pass on any nutritional value to us.You may be thinking to yourself, well if the soils are so depleted then why do we see some of the brightest, colour rich, full bodied fruits and vegetables on the supermarket shelves? The answer to that is fertiliser, and what is wrong with that? Well did you know that there are only 3 minerals that are required to grow produce like this. Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium (NPK)is all it takes.
So if food can be grown with only 3 elements then where is the incentive for the growers to add the remaining minerals to turn their crops from looking good to looking good and packed full of nutrients. There is none, because the produce is sold by quantity not quality.
And that's where the problem lies, when you fail to put in the other 57 minerals your body needs. So until the day comes when people start demanding better quality foods, you are never going to get the nutrients your body needs.
